Every so often we are asked if it is safe to use Young Living Essential on or around pets, and other livestock. We generally provide the following information.
Do not use essential oils on and around cats or dogs under eight weeks old because they are developing at fast rates; it is easy to mess up the proper dilution for each breed.

Animals are generally more sensitive to essential oils than humans are. It’s best to heavily dilute essential oils and use them in moderation.

Every animal is different, so carefully observe how your animal responds to essential oils. Use common sense and good judgment as you try different methods.

Be especially careful to not get essential oils in an animal’s eyes.

If diffusing, always allow cats access to areas where they can avoid the diffused oil.

With all animals, avoid using high-phenol oils—such as Oregano, Wintergreen, Clove, Mountain Savory, and Thyme. This is especially important with cats.

Use special caution with cats and essential oils. Avoid applying citrus oils topically, diffusing the scent around cats, and having your cat ingest them.

Even after our Young Living essential oils bottles are empty, they serve a purpose. We submerge them in a large jar of water, along with the caps, and leave them for several weeks. Result? A rich, mixed scented water that we can then use in our diffusers. I like this picture, it shows Joy still displayed, and still working.

Another one of our favorite Young Living oil blends is Believe. Ingredients include Balsam, Idaho Balsam Fir, Coriander, Bergamot, Frankincense, Idaho Blue Spruce, Ylang Ylang, and Geranium.

Believe is a great oil for diffusing, the fresh fragrance helps generate feelings of hope, making it possible to focus on health, vitality, and happiness.

It has been known to act as a slight skin irritant so if applied topically, it should be sparingly, mixed with a carrier oil.

Raven is a fantastic Young Living blend of essential oils. It includes Camphor, Lemon, Wintergreen, and Eucalyptus Radiata.

This is often suggested as a support for the upper respiratory system, applied to chest and back. Highly antiviral and antiseptic. For external use only.

This room freshener continually emits a light scent while the baking soda works to absorb any unwanted odors. When you need more fragrance, just give it a little shake!

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup baking soda

• 15 to 25 drops essential oil(s) of your choice

• A small jar with a perforated lid, such as a clean, empty parmesan shaker or a 1/2- pint mason jar with a pin- pricked piece of card stock in place of the lid— secure it with the mason jar ring

Directions:

1. Combine baking soda essential oil(s) in the prepared jar. With your hand over the lid’s holes, shake well to evenly distribute the oils.

Adding essential oils to baking soda create a powerful yet easy air freshener.

2. Place your air freshener jar anywhere you want to control odors, such as bathrooms, trash areas, closets, etc.

3. Shake your air freshener jar frequently to keep the scent activated. If you notice that the fragrance starts to fade, simply add 4 to 5 drops of additional essential oil to jar.
